According to reports, Samsung is preparing to release its next S-series flagships earlier than usual. The Galaxy S24 series is expected to be a minor upgrade, but one that is significant for the brand given its struggles in other areas, such as its semiconductor business. The device could be released as early as January, and here’s when and where the event will take place.
Samsung Galaxy S24 launch date
According to SBS Biz, the South Korean conglomerate is planning to unveil its next major flagship series, the Samsung Galaxy S24, on January 17th. These devices will be unveiled in person in San Francisco, California. It will also samsung’s first “generative AI” phone.
The new date corresponds to earlier rumors, with Ice Universe claiming a month ago that the device would be unveiled on January 18th. This is not the first time Samsung has launched its S series in January, as the Galaxy S21 series was unveiled on January 14th, 2021. In addition, the company held its first in-person event in three years in San Francisco for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series in February 2023, followed by an event in Seoul for the second Unpacked event of the year.
According to rumors, the new phones will focus on AI features, camera and design refinements, but will otherwise look the same as their predecessors. A January event also implies that the brand intends to compete with the iPhone 15 series, which will have its Pro models in stock by January.
It remains to be seen whether the phone’s early release will give it an advantage in the competitive smartphone market, as even Chinese brands have accelerated their flagship launches, the most recent example being the new Xiaomi 14 series. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is also expected to reintroduce Samsung’s own Exynos chipsets in limited markets.
